Help Us Help More Golden’s Like Bella.

A letter from Jeff and Jill to their family and friends:  As most of you know Jill and I lost or beloved Golden Retriever "Lorenzo" to cancer a few months ago. Since that time the house just hasn't felt complete…..after much thought we decided it was time to bring another bundle of golden joy into our lives. The choice between a puppy and an older rescue golden was a tough one but doing something good for a needy dog and the reduced cost on new shoes and furniture won out :-)

We searched around and began to work with the Everglades Golden Retriever Rescue which serves from West Palm down to Key West. Jane and Marci were awesome and we came very close to getting Hunter and Maggie (a bonded pair) but trying to add two huge personalities to this little conch house just seemed to be too much and all of the single dogs that EGRR had just didn’t fit into our active lifestyle so we kept looking.

We broadened our search and got in contact with Golden Retriever Rescue of Southwest Florida over in the Naples/Sarasota area.

Dominic Shugart took the time and effort to respond to all of my rather chatty e-mails and after one near miss on an adoption we found what appeared to be the perfect match. Dolce, as she was previously known, was surrendered by her hard working parents because they had too little time to spend with her. According to Dominic the tearful leave taking was tough on the previous owners but they felt they were doing the right thing. After two weeks in a foster home for evaluation the day came last Saturday for us to meet Dolce…and it was love at first sight. This energetic sweetheart proved to be every bit as “sweet” as her Italian name indicates.

She is a Key Largo dog now…and as we all know “changes in latitudes” cause “changes in attitudes” or in this case….a name change… because she is just as sweet as ever.

Enjoy the photos of our little Bella. It has only been a week but she is part of the family and has staked out a place in our hearts forever.
